Paddling Safely in Cardiff Bay

Before Paddle Boarding on Cardiff Bay and the Rivers Taff and Ely, please ensure that you have completed and approves ‘Intro To SUP Coarse’. This can be booked locally with the South Wales Paddle boarding club or at CIWW.

Please also ensure you have opened/downloaded and read the Cardiff Harbour Authority user guide for Cardiff Bay. You can click the link below to open and save the PDF.

All paddle craft must launch from one of the Harbour Authority approved sites at either Cardiff International White Water Centre or Channel View Leisure Centre. Report to reception every time you launch. Please contact them directly or see their websites for opening hours and further information about access.

Please take special note to the guidance on the map shown and make sure you don’t paddle in the shaded areas as these are excluded for paddle sports for safety reasons. Pay particular attention to the areas used in operation of the Barrage and the open speed limit across the centre of the bay.

Always use common sense, pay attention and take care of other water users. Avoid them safely as they may not have seen or be able to avoid you!

Paddle safe, always wear your leash and buoyancy aid at all times on the water and please do contact us for more information and guidance about paddling in and around the Cardiff Bay Area – why not join one of our club night paddles for more top tips about paddling locally and guidance to help you progress with your paddle skills?

Before going on the water in Cardiff Bay and the Rivers Ely & Taff please ensure you have reviewed the water quality and notice to mariners via the Harbour Authority website:
